Breast Health

BreastScreen Tasmania provides a free screening mammogram every two years to women between the age of 40 and 74 years throughout Tasmania.

You should see a doctor about:

  • new lumps
  • changes in the shape of your breast
  • changes in the colour of your breast
  • changes in the nipple
  • discharge from the nipple
  • puckering or dimpling of breast skin
  • any persistent breast pains
  • any persistent nipple or breast itching or rash.

Breasts come in all shapes and sizes and will change from adolescence to menopause.

It is important to know your own breasts so you can tell if any changes occur. If you are at all concerned then you should speak to a doctor no matter your age.

If you have any of the above signs or symptoms, please make an appointment for a breast examination.

The Bubble women's health GPs will take a history and perform a breast examination. From there it will be determined as to whether you need a breast ultrasound +/- mammogram.

You cannot get a screening mammogram with BreastScreen Tasmania if you have any of the above symptoms. You must see a doctor for more extensive investigation.
