Joining The Bubble Team to offer these classes is Midwife and Registered Nurse Lauren Vair.
Lauren has been caring for pregnant women and their babies as a Midwife for almost a decade. Lauren is passionate about educating and empowering mums and dads and is so excited to begin classes.
Lauren was born and raised in Canada. She moved to Tasmania in 2007 to study Nursing and graduated in 2011. She then went on to complete her Graduate Diploma in Midwifery at UTAS in 2013. Lauren has vast experience across all areas of Midwifery. She has always had a strong passion for everything pregnancy, birth and postpartum. So much so that she has 6 (almost 7) children herself!
She loves working with women and their families during this very special and important time in their lives. She looks forward to providing antenatal education so women can make informed decisions and enter this next exciting chapter of their lives with ease and confidence.
The curriculum for the classes has been formulated together by Midwife Lauren and Dr Natasha Vavrek. Our classes cover all aspects of pregnancy, right through to birth and beyond.
$385 per couple – full fee will need to be paid at the time of booking.
No Medicare rebate available. Check with your private health to see if you can claim sessions through them.

Light supper and refreshments are also included as part of this package.
Our classes take place after business hours in order to accommodate parents, and are held right here at The Bubble Launceston.
Class 1:
- Preparing for labour: Let's discuss your hormones and those body signals and changes. Early labour signs. How do you time contractions and what do they even feel like? Birth plan and discussion to have with your birth support.
- Comfort measures during pregnancy and management of pain is important to plan. Who will be your birth partner and how can you reduce stress during labour?
- Preparing for the unexpected: From premature rupture of membranes to induction or caesarean section, we explore how to be prepared, and understand why these measures may be required.
- What to pack for hospital?
Class 2:
- What are the stages of labour? What is the difference between pre labour and established labour? Let's discuss how your baby can be monitored while in labour and let's take a deep dive into medical interventions like opioids, epidural anaesthesia, synthetic oxytocin and nitrous oxide. Did you know you need to deliver your placenta?
- Birth partner role
- How can you use massage, positioning and breathing techniques to provide comfort?
- COVID and birthing: What are the current protocols?
Class 3:
- Bub is here! Now what? Let's discuss what may happen in that immediate post natal phase such as cord clamping, skin to skin, vitamin K injection, newborn screening tests and more.
- Physical and emotional recovery of your body
- The ‘how to’ of nappies, bathing, swaddling, baby carrying
- Breastfeeding basics
- Mental health: How to support and protect your mental health
- Birth control options and returning to your sexual relationships
