The Bubble Launceston is thrilled to provide Antenatal Classes to expecting parents. We have formulated a comprehensive educational program designed to guide expectant parents through the transformative journey of pregnancy, birth, and beyond. The aim is to empower you for your birth and aid with a positive experience for you, your partner and your baby.

Key Details:

  • Cost: $385 per couple (full payment required at booking to secure your spot)
  • Medicare Rebate: Not applicable; check with your private health for potential coverage
  • Duration: 6 hours in total, structured into 3 classes (2 hours each), running weekly over 3 weeks
  • Location: The Bubble Launceston
  • Inclusions: Light supper, refreshments, and invaluable insights into your parenthood adventure


Class Highlights:

Joining our team to lead these classes is Lauren Vair, a dedicated Midwife with over a decade of experience caring for pregnant women and their newborns. Originally from Canada, Lauren relocated to Tasmania in 2007 to pursue Nursing, later completing her Graduate Diploma in Midwifery at UTAS in 2013.

With a passion for everything pregnancy, birth, and postpartum, Lauren brings a wealth of knowledge to our Antenatal Classes. As a mother of seven herself, she understands the unique challenges and joys of the parenthood journey.

Class 1: Preparation for Labour

  • Hormones, body signals, and early labour signs
  • Timing contractions and understanding their sensations
  • Birth plan discussion and communication with your birth support
  • Comfort measures and pain management strategies
  • Preparation for unexpected scenarios: from premature rupture of membranes to induction or caesarean section
  • What to pack for the hospital

Class 2: Stages of Labour and Birth

  • Exploring the stages of labour
  • Differentiating between pre-labour and established labour
  • Monitoring your baby during labour
  • Deep dive into medical interventions: opioids, epidural anaesthesia, synthetic oxytocin, nitrous oxide
  • The role of the birth partner
  • Comfort techniques: massage, positioning, and breathing
  • COVID protocols related to birthing

The most ideal time to do your classes is between 22 and 34 weeks of pregnancy.

Our classes are limited to 5-6 couples.

Class 3: Postnatal Phase and Beyond

  • Immediate postnatal procedures: cord clamping, skin-to-skin, vitamin K injection, newborn screening tests
  • Physical and emotional recovery after birth
  • Practicalities of newborn care: nappies, bathing, swaddling, baby-carrying
  • Breastfeeding basics
  • Mental health support and protection
  • Birth control options and returning to sexual relationships

Reception staff will contact you within business hours to arrange payment and secure your booking.
