Dr Sarah Shepherd is a University of Tasmania medicine graduate who moved from the mainland to study in 2007 and has never left!

She completed her Fellowship of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (FRACGP) in 2015. She went on to complete a Master of Psychiatry through the University of Melbourne in 2020 and is a Medicare-registered GP Focussed Psychological Strategies (FPS) provider.

Sarah has a special interest in mental wellness, and her holistic approach to health includes consideration of mental health and wellbeing, which is particularly important around big life events like adolescence, becoming a mother, relationship breakdown, birth trauma, grief and loss, and menopause.

She can provide FPS counselling sessions following a Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) or Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) framework with a mental health care plan, or guidance around your options if you aren’t sure what you need.

Sarah follows a trauma-informed approach in her work and aims to assist her patients to feel a sense of mental wellness in their life including exploring medications, therapy options and lifestyle change that can assist with an overall improved sense of wellbeing.

Sarah has also been working with adolescents in the Launceston community for over a decade, and enjoys working with young people around contraception, sexual health and healthy respectful relationships.

On days she is not at the Bubble you’ll find her busy at headspace or at the Well aHEAD program. She is also a passionate medical educator teaching undergraduate medical students at UTAS, and healthcare practitioners through the University of Melbourne’s Safer Families program, which serves to educate Australian general practices around appropriate responses to family violence.

Outside of work Sarah has a permaculture design qualification and is always busy designing and refining her own garden with her partner. She also enjoys getting to the gym, listening to audiobooks and spending time with her energetic young son, two dogs and four chickens.
